DAY 36: FOOD AND EMOTION
April 14, 2022 ~ Thursday
March 10th BMI 35 ~ April 14th BMI 28.3 and still going down!
Refeeding Update: Day 3 of 14. Final day of phase 1.
Phase 1: Juice – 3 days, 4-12 ounce glasses. These alternate between green, orange, and red. I am to swish it in my mouth and drink it slowly throughout the day. If too strong in flavor, I can cut it with water but I am to drink all of the juice.
I am feeling so much better today. I got 6 consecutive hours of sleep last night! This morning I went to the dinning hall and sat with the ladies for about 3 hours. We talked about this and that and what little bit of gossip there is in such a place. None worth mentioning here but stuff like so and so left, they chose these food items for their complementary days of travel food, etc. We exchanged contact info and chatted about past experiences and future plans. Then I went back to my room for the rest of the day. I did get in a short nap mid-day. I did nail care. Pushed back those ole cuticles. Since I have not done any work for 6 weeks, my nails have had a chance to grow a bit. Not only that, but the nails are stronger. My right thumb no longer splits and flakes off. Maybe it will come back when I go back to cleaning but I am hoping the whole nail is just plain healthier.

My Comments: My comments or rather my thought for the day, again, center around Chef Bravo’s 3rd cooking course. I am almost done watching it. I will need to go through these lessons again but standing in my kitchen cooking the same dish. I am afraid I made a study of him while I was here. I am using every tool, every resource I can find to be successful at regaining my health. He is part of that. It is my intention to make 2022 the year I changed. Can I reach 130 pounds by December 2022? I do not know but I will try. I have the tools to make that happen but then life does happen along the way.
Chef Bravo understands why we would cheat on such a restrictive diet and he is the executive chef at TrueNorth. It is nice to relate to someone else who struggles from time to time as well. He is quite open in his struggles and how he deals with those times when life pushes you to the edge. He is human and relatable. Here is an example of what I mean:
He says EVERYONE is an emotional eater and there are three parts to this. We all have food with emotions attached to it. Pie at Thanksgiving. Grandma’s lasagna. There is the food, grandma, and a connection or an emotion attached to that food because of grandma. It is that simple for him. So how to deal with it is what the lesson is about. So, here is a dish of Grandma’s lasagna. That is an all or nothing choice. 100%. But what if you created a very delicious lasagna that is different from hers? You now you have a 50%/50% choice. You upped your odds by just having a choice. Sometimes when with Grandma, she might win and most of the other times his own delicious creation wins.
Anyway, that is his view of it. Let’s see if I can now carry that forward into my own life back in Vermont. That will be the real test.
