DAY 30: SHINGLES HEADACHE

April 8, 2022 ~ Friday

Fasting Update: Day 25 of 28. Back in November of 2021 I had shingles of the eye. I jumped right on it, got the meds I needed, and did not suffer long term effects of it. Or did I? I know they say the brain does not have pain sensors. Yeah, whatever. The nerves that ARE in that region of the anatomy were literally on fire and I felt like my brain was going to literally explode. Fast forward to the middle of last night. I woke up with a slight headache. As I sat there holding my hand over my right eye, I said “Hey wait a minute this is not just a headache behind my right eye. This is a shingles headache”. Has my body finally gotten around to dealing with the damage done from having had the shingles? I do not know but Dr Streutker said fasting can bring on a shingles like response. As long as I have no other symptoms, and I do not, we can finish up the final 3 days of fasting. All in all I am doing well, but I am getting tired of this.

Fasting brain is a real thing. Days run into each other and you can’t remember what day of the week it is. Words go missing in the middle of a sentence. You are slow at thinking. You enjoy talking with others who know exactly how you are feeling and we are comfortable with one another even though we just met. It is nice. We rest a lot. I have even taken to cat naps through out the day. Chef Bravo, with a smile, calls TrueNorth a food prison as he cooks food in front of fasting patients. If were not for a computer with a calendar I would lose track of all time. I also have a little piece of paper on the wall where I “tick” off the days until the fast is over. I will show it to you when it the fast is complete. I have had my fill of watching TV. I am now listening to audio books to fill the time. I am not bored. I am just tired and ready to go home and get back to life. I have enjoyed my stress-free life and can now compare it to what my life was and ways I can change that life to be more stress-free.

Daily fasting numbers: Weight-180.9 Weight lost during fast-25.1 Weight loss since adopting diet-54.1 BP-106/73 Heart rate-68 Oxygen level-97 Temperature-97.6 Glucose-69 Sleep-5.25 hrs. One minute pulse rate-steady 73. Muscle pain level-0 (scale 1-10) Energy level-7 (scale 1-10).

My Comments: I have to tell you that Dr. Goldhamer was not kidding when he said the fasting process and the body preferentially goes after the visceral fat. That is the fat around the organs and what causes the huge belly that I had. Not only am I thinner overall, but that belly that I had is just about gone. Yes GONE. I still have more work to do. I want to lose 50 more pounds. I want to weight about 130 and I finally can see my way to doing that! This will work.

Cooking: Today, I had two cooking demos. The first was vegan raw food. I do not plan to become a raw only food eater. The second demo was with Chef Bravo. He was superb as usual. A very good teacher who brakes the process down into pieces as he explains the theory. He does not use recipes although he does write up recipes for the rest of us. I am still watching my way through his cooking courses. I will have to go through them again in my own kitchen and make the dishes myself. At the end of a year, I will have acquired the necessary knowledge base needed to stick to this. And maybe help others who ask how did I do this? And how can they do this without a 28 days fast? It can be done!
