DAY 14: DOIN’ A LOT OF RESTING

Fasting Update: Day 9 of water fasting. Today, I had another blood draw. The draw is usually only once a week but the doctor wanted a mid week draw. Keeping an eye on potassium and a liver enzyme called Alkaline Phosphatase. My liver is working hard and it did not come to TrueNorth as healthy as it should have been. They do take prodigiously good care of their patients. I have no other fasting symptoms to report.
Daily fasting numbers: Weight-191.1 Weight loss since adopting diet-43.9 BP-123/73 Heart rate-84 Oxygen level-96 Temperature-98 Glucose-73 Sleep-6.5 hours …..
Lecture: Water fasting by Dr Veress. She went into great detail about what happens in the body during a fast. The following numbers are approximate as everyone is different but day 5 is an important stepping stone in the process and then day 7-9. These two stepping stones were miserable for me. I am past them now and hope there are better days ahead.
TrueNorth has been doing this for almost 40 years. They KNOW what they are doing and have a protocol that WORKS. Not one person has died as a result of the fasting protocol they use. They can say with confidence that high blood pressure and diabetes can be resolved (not cured) by day 14. Autoimmune and hormonal by 21 days. Cancers are harder to manage so the longer the fast the better 28-40 days. Again, this is NOT a cure. And these cancer patients may then go back to standard protocols for further help. One thing is for sure, the fast fortified them to keep on fighting. Some cancer patients use fasting instead of chemo. Wise? That is for them to say. The only cancer that TrueNorth has fully reversed (not cured) with documentation is lymphoma. Papers have been published on these cases.
Dr Veress will tell you that if you really want to lose weight cut your calories and REST. This will not mess with nor damage your metabolism. Your metabolism goes down to about 75% of what it was during caloric restriction and if you exercise to lose more weight you are putting a stress on the body and on the thyroid that will cause damage. In my short time fasting, I have noticed this phenomenon. On days I do too much I do not lose as much. Not only that, the energy my body needs to heal is used up doing too much. On my small scale, I believe it. I spend my afternoons and evenings resting.
Cooking: There were no cooking class today but after the live demo with Chef Bravo last week, I purchased his online cooking course. I already own his cookbooks. I have to relearn how to cook this way and he is my only hope. Today, I watched a video about fresh herbs and what to pare them with. For example:
- mint goes with citrus
- tarragon with lemon, acidic foods, make a pineapple salsa
- rosemary with potatoes, beans, tomatoes, can over power other flavors
- basil with tomatoes, asparagus, peas, onions
- sage with sweet and savory things, squash, wild rice, white beans
- parsley, thyme and chives go with anything
- oregano, fresh has a medicinal taste so use dried oregano, tomato or corn/beet salsa
I can’t stand cilantro and Chef Bravo can’t stand dill. So I do not use cilantro and he does not use dill. Not in any of his cooking nor in his cookbooks!
